Introduction
Samosas are one of the most popular snacks in India, Pakistan, and many other parts of the world. They are crispy, savory, and filled with delicious ingredients like potatoes, peas, onions, and spices. Although they are traditionally deep-fried, our recipe offers a healthier alternative by baking them in the oven.
Quick and Easy Samosa Recipe: Ingredients
Before we start, let's gather all the ingredients we will need to make our quick and easy samosas.
For the dough:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup of water
For the filling:
- 2 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1/2 cup of green peas
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon of coriander seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon of red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala
- 1 tablespoon of oil
- Salt, to taste
Quick and Easy Samosa Recipe: Steps
Now that we have all the ingredients, let's start making our samosas.
Step 1: Making the dough
- In a large mixing bowl, add 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Mix well.
- Add 1/4 cup of vegetable oil to the flour mixture and mix with your fingers until it resembles breadcrumbs.
- Gradually add 1/2 cup of water to the mixture and knead until you have a smooth dough.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Making the filling
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds and 1/2 teaspoon of coriander seeds to the pan. Let them splutter.
- Add 1 chopped onion and 2 chopped green chilies to the pan and sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add 1/2 cup of green peas to the pan and sauté for a minute.
- Add the mashed potatoes to the pan along with 1/2 teaspoon of red chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala, and salt to taste. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the filling cool down.
Step 3: Making the samosas
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls and roll them into circles of about 6-7 inches in diameter.
- Cut each circle in half to make two semi-circles.
- Take one semi-circle and make a cone by bringing the two straight edges together and sealing them with a little water.
